So you may be wondering what SM is, so I will tell you. It\u2019s an anxiety-based mental health disorder which usually commences in early childhood. People with SM are able to speak fluently in some situations but remain consistently silent in others. They may have a blank expression, or appear \u2018frozen\u2019 when expected to speak.<\/p>
With early intervention recovery is often good, but in some cases SM may last right through a child\u2019s school life and sometimes even into adulthood. It is important to understand that those with SM want to speak, but find themselves physically unable to do so due to their anxiety. <\/p>
The longer a person has SM the greater the likelihood of them developing other mental health conditions such as Social Anxiety, and the more it is likely to affect their ability to make friendships, achieve in education and obtain employment.
